Giving Back

Margie focuses her volunteer time in Northern Michigan where she lives on a rural 10 acres with her husband and their animals.

She serves as the president of the Board of Directors for the Housing Trust of Benzie, a community land trust that offers a creative path to homeownership at a more attainable price. The organization has nearly built and sold eight homes, and is just getting started.

Margie believes you can’t care for a community without caring for its land and water. She volunteers on the Environmental Committee of Crystal Lake Township, champions the Benzie Conservation District, and serves on the Board of Directors of the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy. Protecting Northern Michigan’s natural resources, its lakes, forests, and open land, is, in her view, essential to the health and quality of life that makes this place worth fighting for.
